Active Citizen Project (ACP) is about you, me and all of us causing change.
It’s websites like this that we can use to turn our thoughts and ideas about politics and life into actions that actually change the conditions in which we live.
It is images, sounds, text and strategies we create into new forms of politics and social change that increase our impact on the world around us.
It’s a place where we can experiment, collaborate, create and test our solutions for making things better.
It’s us working together in communities, across nations and around the globe to cause change.
ACP is all the different ways we can think of and create to initiate and take actions on our own behalf for our mutual well being.
ACP is for all of us.
If you want to do and not just talk about what needs to be done. If you want to get your facts from the people who are most affected and not just the news. If you want things to be different and not just look different. ACP is a place for you to come and come often.
ACP doesn’t represent who we are. It is who we are. It doesn’t report what we do. It is what we do. It doesn’t tell us what to believe. It is what we believe.
ACP is us, the people, political and active on our own terms.
Change doesn’t happen without different ways of thinking about things, fresh ideas and risk.
Usually we try to cause change by asking others to do it for us. We work hard to get a seat at The Table. We give testimony, ask for solutions and negotiate with the people who decide what gets done. Each time we sit at the table we fight an uphill battle to have an equal say and impact on what they do on our behalf.
But, what if we flip it? What if we invite everyone to the table so we all have a say and role in what gets done? What if instead of asking questions we are providing answers? What if instead of waiting for action we are taking action?
At ACP you don’t ask just ask questions you answer them. You don’t write leaders you are a leader. You don’t petition for change you cause change.
You can take 10 minutes and fill out The Way I See It (TWiST) form and help create The People’s Platform – our visions, priorities and solutions for that we want done.
When combined our TWiSTs become The People’s Platform. We can ratify our Platform through People’s Elections that we hold in our communities and online. These elections are independent and non-partisan. They don’t come from a political party they come from all of us. We initiate and conduct them so that we, the people, have more direct impact on what gets done and how it’s done by public leaders.
When we turn our TWiSTs into mandates we give ourselves a way to hold leaders accountable for addressing what we need done.
You can email the TWiST to your family, friends and the people you know. Print them, hand them out and ask your community to fill them out. Our power to cause change increases each time someone fills one out.
Blog on and post comments at UTru Blog where today’s events get discussed from different perspectives. UTru views what’s happening from the perspective of mutual well-being. UTru bloggers discuss what is happening in terms of its impact on the well-being of those directly affected and on all of us as whole.
Using your smart phone or a mouse, you can get and post facts, images and sounds of what’s happening in the world on UTru. You can add your experiences, perspectives and ideas at UTru Blog and expand the information we get.
UTru Blog gives us a place to correct misinformation and bias. It puts pressure on paid journalists to get their news right and make it complete. And it puts pressure on us, the people, to insist on and get complete, accurate facts.
With your cell phones, smart phones, keyboard and a mouse, you can build networks and create allies for taking virtual and community actions on ACP’s social networking pages on YouTube, MySpace and Facebook.
People’s Office of Mutual Well-Being. This winter you can take part in opening and running the People’s Office of Mutual Well-Being. Use your power to make mutual well-being the objective of public policies and actions for all of us.
ACP was started in 2004 by independent filmmaker Linda Goode Bryant and a group of volunteers who believe art and new media are our 21st century tools for causing change.
With images and sounds we create we don’t have to rely on others to tell our stories, represent our interests, act on our behalf. We can do it ourselves! And we can reach and work with people all over the world without leaving our chairs.
With a pen, pad and postage stamp, your cell phone, smart phone and mouse, you can create your own messages and document events and present them to the world over ACP’s websites and in public installations in ACP cities. As we grow in numbers, our images and our sounds – the people’s voices – will be everywhere in our communities, throughout our nation and the world.
In ACP cities, you can be part of Open Caucus and Action Cooperatives to start change with images, sounds and actions that improve our mutual well-being. You can stop at the ACP People’s Video Stand in your community to add your perspectives and actions on Causing Change videos.
