We use it to talk to one another, tell stories and play games. We use it to lose ourselves, find ourselves and to record our thoughts. We use it to buy and sell.
We use media so much we sometimes forget there are things we can do without it.
Or things we could do better if we only used it different.
For instance, what if all of us used media to turn our words, sounds and images into power – the power we have as citizens of the world to cause change?
Right now, people are making media about the things they want changed. They are using it to take part in the Presidential Elections in the United States. Recording and reporting how they see it, what they expect from it, how they think about it and what they will do to cause change.
This fall, on this site, you and people everywhere will be able to create a Virtual Candidate that debates with the Candidates and presents what people expect from the next administration.
And there’s more to come in 2008 and 2009 at ACP that will make it possible for you to make media a new form of politics. Not media about politics. Media that is politics.
Because each idea, each word each image you make, post online and put in your community can cause change.
On Dec. 1, ACP traveled with 19 students from 9 cities around the country to Des Moines, IA where we created a documentary film of a public forum with the 2008 Presidential Candidates.
Footage from their videos is posted here. Watch now and look for new videos each week.
The documentary film is coming this winter. Stay tuned!
