An Exhibition of People-Led Change
August 18th – September 15th, 2008
From August 18th – September 15th, 2008, ACP posters will be on exhibit at City Hall Council Chambers and the City Administration building in Colorado Springs. Posters in the exhibit were designed by artists and inspired by images and slogans created by youth. Creators of the slogans present at the exhibit include members of Urban Strategies Maternity Shelter in Brooklyn and schools in Chicago, Detroit, Brooklyn, and Harlem. See the posters at the Causing Change tab on the site!
Since 2003, youth and adults around the country have gotten together to make their visions for a better world a reality using direct action and media. They meet in classrooms, community centers, homeless shelters and residential facilities to decide what they want changed in their communities, cities and the nation. Last year, students created over 4000 slogans to present their vision messages to the general public, and 14 of those slogans were used in the creation of the "For the People" posters exhibit.
ACP believes people-driven actions – reflecting the diversity of communities and undertaken for their mutual well being – lead to societies that protect the welfare and human rights of all people. Its mission is for people to shape the public conditions under which they live. Its vision is a movement for social and political change supported by all people and driven by the efforts of the working class, poor and others whose civil or human rights are not recognized.
New ACP activities will begin this fall in cities throughout the country. Please join your community and take part. Visit www.activecitizenproject.com . or call toll-free 877.352.4927 to find dates for ACP activities in your community and organize your own!
