Change

I am old enough to remember having to sit in the balcony of movie theatesr when I was 9 or 10 years old. I am black and this was in Ohio.

It didn’t matter that blacks paid the same $ to see the movie. We had to sit upstairs.

We kids didn't like being made to sit upstairs so we threw popcorn and spitballs down on the whites below.

Eventually, we refused to go upstairs and didn't care what would happen.

That was during the Civil Rights movement.

Now, we can all sit wherever we want in a movie theater. And we think things have changed.

Except the same people who needed help back then in my neighborhood are the same people who need it now. The same people who were making decisions then are still making them.

Back then people would say, if I voted I could have an impact on what goes on. Now I read where my vote in an election has about as much impact as if I didn’t vote at all.

Maybe its time for another change.
